Save the date for… A Wider Circle Collection at Hermon on Sunday, May 7!

Since 2001, A Wider Circle has helped hundreds of thousands of families all throughout the metro DC area lift themselves out of poverty.   This wonderful organization redistributes furniture and home goods to individuals and families transitioning out of homeless situations or to those simply living without life’s necessities.    Hermon Presbyterian Church will be helping with this effort!

Over the next 2 months we encourage you to think about items you may be able to donate to this worthy cause.  Their wish list is large and includes furniture (beds, dressers, kitchen table/chair sets, baby items, sofas, etc) as well as personal care items, kitchen items, towels, bedding, etc.   Please check out their website at www.awidercircle.org to be inspired!  Note that all furniture items should be donated in good condition (no rips or stains).

You can either bring your items to church on Sunday, May 7 or if your items are too heavy/bulky for you to transport you can be in touch with Alison Ewing at alisonewing@verizon.net and she will coordinate pickup that morning – either with the help of some of our adults/teens and large vehicles, or by coordinating an extra stop by the large truck that A Wider Circle is bringing to Hermon at noon on May 7.

Once again this winter we partnered with Rainbow Place, a winter women’s shelter located at Rockville Presbyterian Church.  We supplied 3-4 volunteers once a month who prepared a dinner for 30 women and delivered and served the fare.  It is always a fun way to give back and the women at Rainbow are always very grateful for both the food and the company!

Thank you to the families who helped us out during the 2016-17 winter season!

Look for next winter's calendar to be posted in September 2017.  You can sign up with a small group or sign up alone and we’ll make sure to pair you with others.  Our goal is to have 3-4 folks on each of the evenings.  We are expected to arrive at the church @6:30pm and are normally done no later than 9pm.

Please email Alison Ewing at alisonewing@verizon.net to volunteer or ask any questions about this wonderful program!
